15% Lighter Than S-Works — What That Means
The Alpinist at 167g (40cm) is 15% lighter than the S-Works Short & Shallow. If the S-Works is ~195g, the Alpinist is 167g — roughly 28g of weight savings at the controls. On a bike where you've already optimized wheels, frame, and groupset, dropping 28g at the bar makes the bike feel more responsive and alive. It's not just weight — it's where it is on the bike.
Alpinist Bar vs. Alpinist Cockpit — Two Options
The Alpinist Handlebar is a standalone carbon handlebar — use it with any 31.8mm clamp stem. The Alpinist Cockpit II is an integrated bar + stem at 270g. The integrated cockpit is cleaner and slightly lighter as a system (vs. bar + separate stem), but the standalone bar gives you flexibility to use whatever stem length and angle you want. Integrated for simplicity; standalone for configurability.
4° Flare — Why It Matters
The 4° flare on the Alpinist is subtle — enough to give you extra hand positions and control on gravel roads, but not so much that it feels foreign on a pure road bike. Some riders run it on the hoods with the flare providing a more natural wrist angle. It's a modern feature that adds versatility without compromising pure road performance.
