Purgatory Grid 2Bliss Ready T9
Purgatory Grid T9
Trail · GRID Casing · 2Bliss Ready · 965g

The totally new Purgatory is a do-it-all tread that works from cross country race to trail — large center square lugs bite in soft soil while still supporting hard-packed ground, equally at home on the front or back of the bike. Block-in-block knobs roll fast, adapt to terrain, and stay supremely confident when pushed hard. The T9 compound is a gummy, gravity compound with loads of stickiness for riders who won't compromise on grip. GRID casing keeps weight reasonable with sidewall protection, and the 2Bliss Ready setup means easy tubeless mounting with reliable flat protection.

  • GRIPTON T9 Compound: Gummy gravity compound with loads of stickiness — maximum grip, exceptional damping.
  • Block-In-Block Knobs: Adapt to terrain, roll fast, stay confident when pushed hard.
  • Staggered Shoulder Blocks: Predictable corner control from loose dirt to hardpack.
  • High Volume Center Lugs: Climbing and braking traction, suitable for front or rear.
  • GRID 60 TPI Casing: Light and durable XC/Trail construction with sidewall protection.
  • 2Bliss Ready: Tubeless-compatible with easy setup and reliable seal.

Use: Trail riding, enduro, aggressive XC — where grip is non-negotiable. The T9 compound sacrifices some rolling speed for maximum traction. Available in 29 x 2.4" only. At $49.99 on sale, it's the value gravity option in the Purgatory lineup.

T9 — Maximum Grip, No Compromise
GRIPTON T9 is Specialized's stickiest compound — a gummy, gravity-focused rubber designed for riders who prioritize traction above all else. T9 filters vibrations and adapts to terrain exceptionally well, giving you confidence in corners and under braking where lesser tires would slip. The tradeoff is rolling speed: T9 is softer and wears faster than T7, so it's best for riders who actually use that grip rather than those who prioritize efficiency. The Purgatory T9 is compared favorably to the Maxxis Minion DHF Max Grip by reviewers — high praise from the gravity world.
T9 vs T7 — Which Purgatory?
The Purgatory comes in T7 and T9 compounds. T7 rolls faster and lasts longer — it's the trail-efficiency choice. T9 gives you maximum grip for technical terrain where you need every bit of traction. One reviewer who switched to the Purgatory T9 says it "won me over from my usual Minion go-to" — that's significant endorsement from someone who clearly had strong opinions about grip. The T9 version is only available in 29 x 2.4", while the T7 also comes in 27.5" sizes. Note: reviewers wish the T9 came in 650b like the T7 — the 29-only availability is a gap.
GRID — Light Protection for Trail
GRID casing provides sidewall protection without the bead-to-bead layer that adds weight in Grid Trail. At 965g for the 29 x 2.4", the Purgatory Grid T9 is lighter than the Purgatory Grid Trail T9 would be. The sidewall protection panels handle trail debris and rock strikes. If you need more protection for really rocky enduro tracks, the Grid Trail version exists — but for most trail riders, GRID is the right balance of protection and weight.
