Purgatory Grid 2Bliss Ready T7
Purgatory Grid T7
Trail · GRID Casing · 2Bliss Ready · 870g+

The totally new Purgatory is a do-it-all tread that works from cross country race to trail — large center square lugs bite in soft soil while still supporting hard-packed ground, equally at home on the front or back of the bike. Block-in-block knobs roll fast, adapt to terrain, and stay supremely confident when pushed hard. GRIPTON T7 compound prioritizes rolling speed and longevity while still delivering excellent grip. The GRID casing keeps weight low with a light and supple ride plus sidewall protection panels — no bead-to-bead of the Grid Trail, but significantly lighter.

  • GRIPTON T7 Compound: Balanced grip and rolling speed — fast, durable, still grips well.
  • Block-In-Block Knobs: Adapt to terrain, roll fast, stay confident when pushed hard.
  • Staggered Shoulder Blocks: Predictable corner control from loose dirt to hardpack.
  • High Volume Center Lugs: Climbing and braking traction, suitable for front or rear.
  • GRID 60 TPI Casing: Light and durable XC/Trail construction with sidewall protection.
  • 2Bliss Ready: Tubeless-compatible with light and supple ride quality.

Use: Trail, cross country — the lighter GRID option vs Grid Trail. Better for riders who prioritize weight savings and don't need bead-to-bead protection on every ride. Reviewers call it "perfect XC tire if not racing" and "great trail rear tire or down country front."

GRID vs Grid Trail — What's the Difference?
The GRID casing is the lighter option in the Purgatory lineup — 60 TPI with sidewall protection panels but no bead-to-bead layer. At 870g (27.5") and 925g (29"), it saves 45-55g per tire vs the Grid Trail version. The tradeoff is less protection from rock strikes between the beads — if you ride rocky trails regularly, the Grid Trail's bead-to-bead protection is worth the weight penalty. For hardpack and groomed trails, the GRID is the efficiency choice.
T7 — The Balanced Compound
GRIPTON T7 sits in the middle of the compound range — firmer than T9 (gravity grip) but softer than T5 (race speed). It prioritizes rolling speed and longevity while still delivering confident grip. For most trail riding, T7 is the right balance: you get a tire that lasts, rolls well, and still hooks up when you lean into corners. One reviewer noted the Purgatory's tread "fits about halfway between Ground Control and Butcher" — so it's more aggressive than XC tires but lighter than the enduro options.
Block-In-Block — Versatile Traction
The Purgatory's block-in-block design is the same philosophy as Specialized uses across their trail lineup — adaptable knobs that deform into terrain rather than bouncing off it. The inner block claws for traction, the outer block provides support and speed. This tire is noted to work well as a rear trail tire or a front on a down-country bike, and pairs with Ground Control on the opposite end for a balanced setup.
