Men's Summit Series Breithorn Vest
Men's Summit Series Breithorn Vest
Down Vest · Alpine / Climb / Mid-Layer / Cold-Weather Daily

Athlete Tested. Expedition Proven. The Breithorn is a Summit Series piece that has been put to the test in some of the harshest conditions on earth. Adapted to the high alpine as a flexible mid layer, it thrives no matter where you take it. With highly compressible, water-repellent 800-fill ProDown in the body and stretchable side panels, you can move lighter and faster through the mountains or the daily elements. Engineered for mobility. Cut for precision. This is Summit Series. This is the Breithorn.

Slim Fit
Slim fit through the body and a close cut through the chest — designed to layer under a shell on a cold-storm day and to wear as a stand-alone piece on a crisp fall morning. The slim cut moves with the body through alpine movements and is sized to fit over a baselayer without bunching. Engineered for mobility, cut for precision — the silhouette is technical, not bulky.
800-Fill ProDown™ Insulation
800-fill ProDown is a natural down insulation enhanced with a hydrophobic finish that helps it to dry faster than untreated down — the premium-tier down in the TNF lineup, balancing extreme warmth-to-weight with the all-condition performance of a treated cluster. ProDown retains loft in damp conditions that would clump untreated down, which matters on a long alpine climb, a wet shoulder season, or a snowstorm that soaks everything. RDS-certified for animal-welfare sourcing.
Pertex® Y Fuse Fabric
Pertex Y Fuse increases the downproof and water-beading properties of the fabric — a high-end 15D ripstop nylon with a proprietary construction that locks the down clusters inside the baffles (no feathers escaping through the face) and beads water off the surface. The 15D is on the lighter end of the down-shell fabric spectrum, which is what gives the Breithorn its compressibility and packability. Pertex Y Fuse is the spec'd choice for premium down pieces.
Non-PFC DWR Finish
Non-PFC durable water-repellent finish for added water repellency — light rain, snow flurries, and trail mist bead up and roll off the surface of the shell instead of saturating into the down. The non-PFC formulation means no perfluorinated chemicals in the finish. The DWR is the second line of defense (the ProDown's hydrophobic finish being the first) for keeping the insulation dry in mixed conditions.
100% Recycled Nylon
Body fabric and lining made with 100% recycled nylon — the recycled content comes from post-consumer plastic that would otherwise be in a landfill. The 15D body and 215D lining pair ultralight face fabric with a slightly more durable inner that resists the abrasion of pack straps, harnesses, and shells layered over the vest. The recycled content doesn't compromise weight, durability, or wind resistance — it just keeps the material loop closed from the start.
YKK® VISLON® Center Front Zip
Exposed, #3 YKK VISLON center front zip with an insulated internal draft flap — the VISLON is YKK's chunky plastic-tooth zipper, the technical-spec choice for alpine gear because the teeth resist corrosion, run smoothly with gloved hands, and don't accumulate ice and grit the way a coil zip can. The #3 size is light enough to keep the vest's packability intact. The insulated draft flap blocks wind from sneaking through the zipper teeth.
Water-Resistant Pocket Zips
Chest pocket and hand pockets with exposed, water-resistant, reverse-coil zips — the water-resistant zippers keep the contents dry in a backcountry squall, and the reverse-coil construction (teeth on the inside, smooth on the outside) sheds snow and ice rather than collecting it. The chest pocket is sized for a phone or a route description; the hand pockets warm the hands and stash gloves or a beanie. The water-resistant spec is what makes these pockets work in real alpine conditions.
Stows in Left Hand Pocket
Stows in the left hand pocket — the whole vest packs down into the left hand pocket, which doubles as a stuff sack with a clip-in loop. The packed size is small enough to fit in a backpack lid, a climbing harness, or a bike saddle bag. A clip-in loop on the inside of the pocket lets the packed vest attach to a carabiner or a pack strap so it doesn't get lost at the bottom of a bag. The packability is part of the Summit Series spec — a vest that's always with you is a vest you actually wear.
Internal Drop-In Pockets
Two large, internal drop-in pockets — the hidden stash pockets that sit behind the hand pockets, sized for a pair of liner gloves, a beanie, a map, a phone, or a small camera. The drop-in design means the pockets lie flat against the body when not in use, so they don't add bulk to the silhouette. A small detail that adds a secure storage option without adding visible hardware.
Single-Point Hem Cinch
Internal hem cinch-cord with a single-point adjustment — the hem cinches tight to seal out wind from below, and the single-point cord lock is sized to operate one-handed with gloves on. The single-point adjustment is the technical-spec choice for alpine gear because it pulls the hem uniformly around the waist rather than cinching one side tighter than the other. A small detail that adds a tailored fit option to a slim silhouette.

Machine Wash
Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle with a mild down-specific or technical wash. Close all zippers before washing. Use a front-loading machine without a center agitator — top loaders with an agitator can damage the baffles and clump the ProDown. Wash with similar technical fabrics to avoid pilling from rougher materials. The 15D Pertex body is light enough to wash gently without putting stress on the construction.
Tumble Dry Low with Tennis Balls
Tumble dry on low heat with two or three clean tennis balls or dryer balls — the balls break up the ProDown clusters as the vest dries, restoring the loft that gives the vest its insulating power. The cycle takes longer than a standard tumble dry (typically 2-3 full cycles) because the down needs to dry thoroughly to prevent mildew and to fluff back up. High heat will damage the ProDown, the Pertex shell, the DWR finish, and the YKK VISLON zippers.
Do Not Bleach or Iron
Do not use chlorine bleach or fabric softener. Do not iron. Bleach breaks down the recycled nylon, the ProDown, and the heat-transfer logos. Fabric softener coats the down clusters and the Pertex fibers with a film that reduces loft, blocks the moisture-wicking properties, and degrades the DWR finish. A proper down-specific wash and a long tumble-dry cycle handle odor and stains without either chemical.
Restore DWR
When the Pertex shell starts to absorb water instead of repelling it, re-treat with a spray-on or wash-in DWR designed for technical outerwear. Reactivating the finish every few months keeps the vest handling light rain, snow flurries, and trail mist without soaking through. The non-PFC finish means standard household waterproofing sprays work — no need for a fluorocarbon-based product. The Pertex Y Fuse downproof construction is unaffected by DWR treatment.
Storage
Store the vest loosely hanging on a wide wooden or padded hanger in a cool, dry place. Avoid leaving the vest compressed in a stuff sack for extended periods — the ProDown clusters lose loft when stored tightly packed, which reduces the vest's insulating power. If the vest needs to be packed for travel, use the hand-pocket stuff sack for the trip and then unpack and re-loft the vest as soon as you reach your destination.
Patch Small Tears
Patch small tears or punctures in the 15D Pertex shell promptly with a self-adhesive repair patch — small tears grow into large tears when the ProDown starts to escape through the hole. A patched vest performs as well as a non-torn vest, but a torn vest that isn't patched loses down fill steadily. The 15D fabric is light enough that even a small repair patch can feel visible, so use patches sparingly and only where needed.
