Universal Wawona 3 Tent
Universal Wawona 3 Tent
3-Person Tent · Universal Design · Accessibility-First

We built the Universal Wawona 3 from the ground up based on universal-design principles. Created to serve the needs of all campers, it has a large front doorway with a low threshold that makes access easier, including those with mobility devices. The front vestibule can fit up to two mobility devices or a wide range of gear. In the main area, there's enough space for three people or two people using cots, and a dog-leash attachment in the back for a guide dog or any other canine companion.

Universal-Design Accessibility
Built from the ground up on universal-design principles — engineered so all campers can use it, including those with mobility devices
Large Front Doorway with Low Threshold
Wide front door and low threshold make access easier for wheelchairs, walkers, and other mobility devices — no tripping over a raised lip
Mobility-Device Vestibule
Front vestibule fits up to two mobility devices — or a wide range of gear for traditional car-camping setups
3-Person OR 2-Person + Cots Capacity
Main area has enough space for three people OR two people using cots — flexibility for accessible setups and standard car camping
Guide-Dog Leash Attachment
Built-in dog-leash attachment in the back — keeps guide dogs (or any canine companion) secured at night without tying the leash to gear
Non-PFC DWR Finish
Durable water-repellent rainfly finish sheds rain and condensation — no perfluorinated chemicals
Reflective Detailing
Light-reflective accents on key points improve visibility in low-light conditions — safer navigation around camp at night

Construction

DWR Finish
Yes (non-PFC, durable water-repellent)
Reflective Detailing
Yes (low-light visibility)
Recycled Content
25%–49% recycled or sustainable materials
Cleaning
Spot clean the rainfly and tent body with a soft brush, mild soap (such as Nikwax Tech Wash), and lukewarm water. Avoid harsh detergents, bleach, or solvents — they strip the DWR finish and weaken the fabric. Never machine wash or dry clean.
Drying
Air dry completely at room temperature, fully erected if possible, before storage. Never put in a dryer. Avoid direct heat sources. Pitching the tent in the sun briefly after a wet trip helps dry seams and prevents mildew.
DWR Refresh
When water stops beading on the rainfly, reproof with a spray-on DWR treatment (such as Nikwax Tent & Gear SolarProof) to restore water repellency without soaking the fabric.
Pole Care
Inspect poles for cracks, bends, or splintering at the ends before and after each trip. A cracked pole under wind load will fail catastrophically. Replace damaged pole sections immediately rather than mid-trip.
Seam Sealing
Check factory-sealed seams annually. If you see daylight through a seam or notice water ingress, re-seal with a silicone-based seam sealer (compatible with the tent fabric). Apply on a calm day and let cure fully before storage.
Repairs
Patch small tears in the rainfly or tent body with tenacious tape (TNF's preferred field-repair material) as soon as you spot them. Small tears grow fast under wind load — early repair extends tent life dramatically.
Zippers & Doors
Lubricate zippers periodically with a silicone-based lubricant. Open and close the large front doorway slowly to avoid stressing the low-threshold frame. Keep the door tied back fully during the day to prevent wind damage.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, loosely stuffed in the stuff sack or hanging open. Avoid long-term compression of the tent fabric — it breaks down DWR coating and can damage seam tape. Ensure fully dry before storing to prevent mildew and odor.
