Windproof Front Panel
A targeted windproof overlay at the front panel blocks wind chill where the legs take the brunt of a cold headwind — the overlay is bonded to the fleece body where cold air would otherwise cut straight through to skin on a windy trail run, an exposed ridge hike, or a headwind-heavy bike commute. The panel is positioned front-only (not the full leg) so the back of the pant retains the fleece’s full breathability for the heat-management that high-output work demands. The result is protection where you need it and breathability where you need that instead.
Non-PFC DWR Finish
The windproof overlay is treated with a non-PFC durable water repellent finish that sheds light precipitation — mist, freezing drizzle, wet snow, and puddles splash off instead of soaking through to the fleece body. The non-PFC formulation delivers the same water-shedding performance as a traditional PFC-based DWR without the persistent fluorinated compounds that don’t break down in the environment. Light enough to wear on a damp morning without wetting through; repellent enough that’ll keep the front panel dry across an exposed ridge in mixed precipitation.
Merino-Blend Brushed Interior
The body fabric is 54% Recycled Polyester, 38% Merino Wool, 8% Elastane — a soft-brushed Merino-blend knit that runs the brushed face next to skin. Merino handles the natural temperature regulation and odor resistance; the recycled polyester handles the durability and shape retention on the outer surface; the 8% Elastane handles the four-way stretch for movement. The 38% Merino content is meaningful (not a token blend) — it’s enough Merino to deliver the natural moisture management and odor resistance that pure synthetics can’t, balanced against enough recycled polyester to keep the abrasion resistance and recovery that a high-output pant demands.
Recycled Nylon Overlay Stretch Construction
The windproof overlay is 85% Recycled Nylon, 15% Elastane — a stretch-woven recycled nylon panel that bonds to the fleece body where wind protection is needed. The 15% Elastane in the overlay keeps the panel moving with the leg’s full range of motion during dynamic activity rather than fighting the body’s stretch at the knee and hip. The recycled nylon base (instead of virgin nylon) keeps the wind-blocking performance with a lower-impact material choice — meaningful recycled content in a structural panel, not just decorative trim.
Eight Percent Elastane Four-Way Stretch
The body fabric’s 8% Elastane content delivers true four-way stretch — the knit stretches and recovers across both directions of movement at the knee, hip, and ankle rather than just one. The stretch is knit into the fabric itself, not added as a spandex panel at the side seams. The fabric recovers its shape after the movement stops, so the pant doesn’t bag out at the knees or sag at the hips over the course of a long run or a long day on the trail.
Mid-Rise Waist With Layering Compatibility
The mid-rise waist sits above the hip bone — high enough to stay in place during dynamic movement (no rolling-down at the waist when reaching, bending, or running) but not so high that it binds at the ribcage during high-output activity. The mid-rise is the right height for layering over a base layer bottom without the binding a low-rise waist would create, and for tucking a thermal layer into on a colder day without the bulk a high-rise waist would add.
Drop-In Hand Pockets & Secure Back Pocket
Two drop-in hand pockets and one secure back pocket handle essentials — the hand pockets are lined with 100% Recycled Polyester for hand-warming comfort and easy access without interfering with a pack’s hip belt, and the back pocket keeps small valuables (a card, a key, a phone) secure during runs and hikes. The pocket configuration is positioned for the activities the pant is built for: a phone in the back pocket, hands in the hand pockets, and the windproof front panel free to do its job without pocket bulk interfering with the leg’s range of motion.
Reflective Elements For Low-Light Visibility
Reflective elements help make sure you’re seen in low light — early-morning winter runs before sunrise, sunset commutes in the fall, and after-work training sessions when the daylight fades. The reflective trim is placed where it catches headlights from multiple angles without breaking the pant’s clean silhouette or interfering with the windproof panel’s coverage.

The 38% Merino Wool content in the body fabric handles the natural temperature regulation that high-output cold-weather activity demands — Merino’s natural crimp traps body heat during the cold-to-warm swing of starting a run in the cold, manages moisture against the skin during the high-output middle, and prevents the clammy chill a pure synthetic would develop when the activity stops and the sweat cools. Merino’s natural odor resistance means the pant stays fresh across multi-workout days between washes.

Washing
Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle. Wash with like colors — the Merino-blend interior benefits from isolated washing to protect the fabric’s moisture-management properties. Cold water protects the elastane recovery and the Merino fibers. Use a mild, technical wash; avoid fabric softeners (they coat the Merino fibers and reduce natural moisture management).
Drying
Dry flat. The two-zone construction (brushed Merino-blend body + windproof recycled nylon overlay at front panel) and the four-way stretch knit retain their structure best when laid flat to dry — tumble heat can delaminate the windproof overlay, flatten the brushed interior loft, and shrink the Merino fibers. Lay flat on a clean towel away from direct heat. (Note: this differs from the Women’s Active Fleece Wind Tight SW003179 in this family which uses the same dry flat spec — both rely on the same single-layer brushed knit construction that’s more sensitive to tumble heat than a structured insulated pant would be.)
Bleach & Iron
Do not bleach. Cool iron as needed — do not iron decoration. Bleach breaks down Merino wool fibers and degrades the elastane. Iron only on low heat and only on the non-decorated fabric areas; high heat can scorch the brushed Merino interior, damage the four-way stretch recovery, and compromise the windproof overlay’s DWR finish.
Dry Cleaning
Do not dry clean. The harsh solvents used in commercial dry cleaning strip the natural lanolin from Merino and degrade the recycled nylon overlay’s DWR treatment — both of which are core to the fabric’s performance. The non-PFC DWR finish in particular is sensitive to solvent-based cleaning; dry cleaning would strip the water repellency from the windproof front panel.
Storage
Store folded in a dry, breathable space. Merino’s natural odor resistance means the pant stays fresh across multiple workouts between washes, which extends the fabric’s lifespan. Folded storage preserves the four-way stretch and the brushed interior loft; hanging for long periods can stretch the elastane out of the waistband and distort the mid-rise cut.
