Women's Recon Luxe Backpack
Women's Recon Luxe Backpack
Daypack · School / Campus / Daily Commute / Travel

A classic reimagined, the Women's Recon Luxe Backpack excels as a daypack with its women-specific suspension, large mesh storage pocket, and daisy-chain attachment points. This new edition features premium metallic accents, so you can stand out wherever you go. The Recon silhouette carries the heritage of a campus classic — but the Luxe treatment adds metallic zipper pulls and a metallic embroidered logo, dialed for a polished everyday look without sacrificing the storage and suspension the line is known for.

Metallic Luxe Accents
The Luxe edition features a premium metallic embroidered logo and metallic zipper pulls — the polished upgrade that sets the pack apart from the standard Recon line. The metallic hardware is cosmetic, but the upgrade signals the same build quality underneath. Subtle enough for a lecture hall, sharp enough for a client meeting.
Women-Specific FlexVent™ Suspension
Certified by the American Chiropractic Association — the suspension system is built around a flexible yoke, articulated shoulder straps, a rounded back panel, comfortable stitch lines, and soft-touch chemise fabric against the body. Tuned specifically for a women's fit, the shoulder straps angle in slightly, the back panel curves to match the natural spine, and the lumbar panel keeps the small of the back from getting damp on warm commutes.
Stands Unsupported
Stand-up design for easier packing and unloading — the structured build sits upright on its own, even when fully loaded. Packing is faster when the bag doesn't topple over. Unloading a laptop at a security checkpoint is faster when the bag is already vertical. The structured back panel and reinforced boot are what make the stand-up possible.
16" Laptop Compartment
Protective, dedicated 16" laptop compartment — padded, secure-zip, and suspended slightly off the bottom of the bag so a sudden drop doesn't transfer full impact to the device. Sized for the larger modern laptops without forcing the bag to be a tank. Doubles as a hydration sleeve for a trail day.
Large Main Compartment
Large main compartment for books and binders — wide opening, clean interior, no internal sleeves getting in the way. The capacity swallows a full day of textbooks, a binder, a notebook, a lunch, and a change of layers without needing to be packed Tetris-tight. Top-loading D-zip opens wide for fast access.
Front Organization Compartment
Front compartment has internal organization with secure-zip pockets and a padded tablet sleeve — pens, cables, calculator, passport, the small stuff that gets lost in a black-hole main compartment. The padded tablet sleeve holds a second device or an e-reader separately from the laptop in the main compartment.
Fleece-Lined Top Pocket
External, fleece-lined pocket for sunglasses, phone, or keys — the soft lining protects screens and lenses from scratches on the walk between class and the car. Quick-access placement means the phone is on the hip rather than buried at the bottom of the bag when it buzzes.
Stretch-Mesh Front Pocket
External stretch-mesh pocket on the front for a damp layer, a paperback, or the rain shell that needs to dry on the go. The mesh breathes, so a wet jacket doesn't sit in a sealed compartment and start to smell. Stretches to fit, then collapses flat when empty.
Dual Water Bottle Pockets
Two durable water bottle pockets can easily double as multi-use pockets with quick-draw smartphone access on one side — slip a 32 oz bottle in one, a phone in the other, and reach either without breaking stride. The pockets are deep enough to keep the bottle from falling out on the walk and slim enough to disappear when empty.
Side & Bottom Compression
Side compression straps cinch the load down tight to keep contents from shifting during a long walk. Bottom compression adds another anchor point for stabilizing heavy loads, locking a yoga mat or jacket to the bottom of the bag. Both are quick-release buckles for fast access when needed.
Daisy-Chain Lash Points
Daisy-chain webbing offers lash points for clipping extra gear, hanging the bag from a hook, or strapping on a sleeping pad for a quick overnight. Compatible with carabiners, bungee cords, and the small hardware most students and travelers already carry. A small detail that turns the daypack into a modular piece of gear.
YKK® Zippers
Easy-to-use YKK zippers throughout — the industry standard for reliability, with chunky pulls that work with gloved hands, cold fingers, and tired commutes. YKK zippers are the kind of detail you don't notice until a cheaper zipper fails; on the Recon Luxe, they're spec'd in on purpose.
Padded Top Grab Handle
Comfortable, padded top grab handle for grab-and-go carry — easier than fishing for a shoulder strap when setting the bag down in a locker, on a hook, or in the overhead bin on a flight. The padding keeps the hand comfortable when the bag is fully loaded.
Sternum Strap with Whistle Buckle
Sternum strap with a whistle buckle — keeps the shoulder straps from sliding outward on technical terrain or a long hike, and the buckle doubles as a safety whistle for emergency use. Adjustable for layering over a winter coat or a summer tank.
Removable Waist Belt
Removable waist belt adds stability on a hike, a long campus walk, or a fast commute. Unclip it for casual days when the bag doesn't need the extra load transfer. The belt stows in a hidden pocket when removed so it doesn't flap around as a dangling strap.
Reflective Details
Reflective details on the front, sides, and shoulder straps — keep the wearer seen on early-morning walks, dusk commutes, and bike rides home after sunset. Subtle enough to disappear in daylight, bright enough to catch headlights at night. A small safety detail that earns its place on a daily-driver bag.

Construction

Body
210D recycled nylon ripstop with non-PFC DWR finish

Sustainability

Recycled Content
Body fabric made with recycled nylon
Finish
Non-PFC DWR (no perfluorinated chemicals)
Spot Clean
Wipe clean with a damp cloth and mild soap. For scuffs on the 210D ripstop body, use a soft brush and a mild detergent solution, then wipe with a clean damp cloth. The DWR finish, the metallic embroidered logo, and the YKK zippers are all designed to be wiped down — there's no need to launder the bag.
Hand Wash
For deeper cleaning, hand wash in cold water with a mild detergent. Do not machine wash or tumble dry. The machine agitation will damage the FlexVent back panel, the metallic logo embroidery, the YKK zipper heads, and the DWR finish. The bag is built like a technical pack, not like a soft duffel, and should be cleaned like one.
Air Dry
Air dry completely with all compartments unzipped and open. Hang it on a hook or stand it upright on a flat surface. Do not put in the dryer. Do not iron. High heat delaminates the ripstop PU backing, warps the back panel, and degrades the DWR finish. The bag can take a day to fully dry when the interior is soaked — plan accordingly after a rainstorm.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place. Keep buckles, straps, and zippers unbuckled/unzipped to avoid stress on the webbing and stitching. Hang the bag on a hook by the top grab handle, or stand it upright on the reinforced boot. Avoid leaving heavy textbooks in the bag during long-term storage — they can deform the back panel over time.
Zipper Care
Lubricate the main D-zip, the front compartment zippers, and the fleece-lined top pocket zipper periodically with a silicone-based zipper lubricant. Avoid getting sand, salt, or grit in the teeth. If a zipper sticks, work it open and closed gently rather than forcing it. The YKK zippers are repairable if treated kindly.
Restore DWR
When the 210D ripstop body starts to absorb water instead of repelling it, re-treat with a spray-on DWR designed for technical outerwear. Reactivating the finish every 6-12 months keeps the bag performing like new and protects the laptop on rainy commutes. The non-PFC finish means standard household waterproofing sprays work — no need for a fluorocarbon-based product.
Hardware
Wipe down the metal hardware (D-rings, sternum buckle, water bottle pocket frames) with a dry cloth after exposure to salt water or road salt. Salt will pit aluminum and corrode steel if left on the surface. The hardware is replaceable through customer service if a buckle does fail, but a quick wipe-down after a beach day or a winter trip will prevent the issue in the first place.
