Summit Series AMK Down Mitts
Summit Series AMK Down Mitts
Alpine · 1000 Fill ProDown™ · FUTURELIGHT™

The Advanced Mountain Kit is made with unparalleled precision for the world's best athletes. As the future of alpine innovation, it thrives in unforgiving conditions where every detail counts. The Summit Series AMK Down Mitts are designed to provide a high warmth-to-weight ratio for added protection in the harshest climates. They feature Spectra® ripstop fabric in the palm for increased durability and have updated baffles for targeted down distribution.

Benefits
Waterproof
FUTURELIGHT™ palm provides a barrier to rain and snow for dryness in wet alpine conditions.
Breathable
Allows moisture vapor to pass through, regulating hand temperature during high-output climbing.
Down Fill
Lofty down insulation maintains warmth in cold conditions.
Wind
WINDWALL™ fabric blocks wind from penetrating, greatly reducing wind chill on exposed ridges.
Packable
Highly compressible — stows small in a pack for summit pushes or weight-sensitive objectives.
Lightweight
Ideal for backpacking, climbing, and alpinism where weight savings matter.
Materials & Construction
WINDWALL™ Shell & Lining
Shell fabric and lining made with wind-resistant WINDWALL™ fabric (100% recycled nylon ripstop). Blocks wind penetration while remaining breathable — the same fabric on both faces means the mitt can be reversed in a pinch and still performs, and you don't need a separate liner.
FUTURELIGHT™ + Spectra® Palm
Palm and mitt tip made with breathable-waterproof FUTURELIGHT™ with Spectra® ripstop (97% recycled nylon, 3% polyethylene Spectra®). Spectra® is the same ultra-high-strength fiber used in ballistic armor and climbing equipment — provides extreme cut and abrasion resistance where the mitt sees the most wear (ice axe grip, rope handling, tool placements).
NANOREFLECT™ Technology
Innovative NANOREFLECT™ technology on the shell and lining — reflects radiant body heat back to the hand without adding bulk or weight. Pairs with the down insulation to create a layered heat-management system.
1000 Fill ProDown™
1000 fill ProDown™ insulation — top-of-line down that retains loft in wet conditions and offers the highest warmth-to-weight ratio and compressibility available. RDS-certified (Responsible Down Standard) by Control Union (CU 843098) for ethical sourcing.
Internal Baffles
Internal baffles for more-targeted down distribution — places more down where you need it (back of hand, fingers) and less where you don't (palm, thumb crotch). Reduces bulk at grip points for better tool handling.
Recycled Nylon Throughout
Shell fabric and lining made with recycled nylon — diverts fishing nets, fabric scraps, and other nylon waste from landfill. The 1000 fill ProDown™ is also RDS-certified for ethical animal welfare sourcing.
Roomy Fit for Liner Gloves
Roomy fit designed for use with or without liner gloves — pair with the Summit Series DOTKNIT™ Liner Gloves (paired on TNF's site) for added warmth on sub-zero summits. The roomy fit also makes the mitt easier to get on and off with cold hands.
Silicone Gripper Dots
Silicone gripper dot print on palm and thumb for better grip — critical when handling ice axes, ski poles, ropes, or carabiners with cold hands. The dots add tactile grip without adding bulk or weight.
Carabiner Loop
Carabiner loop on the back of the pinkie — clip the mitt to a harness or pack when you need to use your fingers (placing protection, adjusting layers, taking photos). Located on the pinkie (not the wrist) so it doesn't interfere with cuff closure.
Cuff Pull
Cuff pull tab for easy on/off — critical when your hands are cold and dexterity is reduced. Lets you get the mitt over a jacket cuff or baselayer without fighting the fabric.
Removable Wrist Leash
Removable wrist leash helps prevent mitts from dropping when not wearing them — essential for glacier travel, climbing, or any time you're taking the mitts on and off. Removes when you don't need it (backcountry skiing, casual wear).
AMK Cloud Down Jacket Compatibility
Designed for sleeve compatibility with the AMK Cloud Down Jacket — the mitt cuff tucks cleanly into the jacket sleeve without binding. Part of the broader AMK (Advanced Mountain Kit) layering system.
Heat Transfer Logo
Heat transfer Summit Series logo — minimal branding that won't snag on gear or fabric.

Washing Down Mitts
Hand wash or machine wash cold on a delicate/gentle cycle in a mesh laundry bag. Use a down-specific detergent (Nikwax Down Wash or Granger's Down Wash) — regular detergent strips the natural oils from down clusters and reduces loft. Wash separately from other garments.
Drying ProDown™
Tumble dry LOW with 2-3 clean tennis balls or wool dryer balls. The balls break up down clumps as they dry, restoring loft. ProDown™ retains loft better than regular down when wet but still takes 2-3 cycles to fully dry. Make sure the mitts are 100% dry before storing.
Skip These for ProDown™
Skip fabric softener, bleach, dry cleaning, and ironing. Fabric softener coats ProDown™ clusters and destroys loft. Bleach degrades the recycled nylon shell and the FUTURELIGHT™ membrane. Dry cleaning chemicals damage DWR treatments and down's natural oils. Ironing can melt the Spectra® fibers and damage the WINDWALL™ face.
Spectra® Palm Care
The Spectra® ripstop on the palm is incredibly strong but can melt under high heat. Keep away from campfires, stoves, and hot pots. If the palm gets a snag or small tear, the ripstop weave will prevent it from spreading — patch with a small piece of Tenacious Tape if needed.
FUTURELIGHT™ Membrane Care
The FUTURELIGHT™ membrane on the palm is TNF's premium waterproof/breathable tech. Treat it like GORE-TEX® — wash with technical cleaner, refresh DWR periodically with Nikwax TX.Direct Spray-On. Don't puncture the membrane with sharp tools or crampons.
Wrist Leash Care
The removable wrist leash has a thin cord that can wear through at the attachment point. Inspect periodically and replace if frayed. The leash attachment can also be unclipped if you don't need it — useful for casual wear or backcountry skiing where dropping isn't a concern.
Carabiner Loop Stress
The pinkie carabiner loop is a high-stress point — when you clip the mitt to a pack or harness, the entire weight pulls on that loop. Inspect the stitching around the loop attachment periodically. If the stitching starts to wear, stop using the loop and repair before it pulls out.
Silicone Gripper Care
The silicone gripper dots on palm and thumb can wear off with heavy use. They aren't a structural element (the Spectra® palm provides the actual grip), so this is cosmetic. If the dots wear smooth, the mitt still works — just with less tactile grip.
Storage (Critical for ProDown™)
Store UNCOMPRESSED in a cool, dry place — on a shelf, in a breathable garment bag, or in a large stuff sack. Never store compressed for months — ProDown™ can lose loft permanently if compressed. Air out at the end of each season before storing.
Repair & Warranty
TNF offers a limited lifetime warranty on manufacturing defects. Summit Series products often have enhanced repair options through TNF's Pro Program. For accidental damage (rips, broken wrist leashes, worn palm), TNF's in-house repair program can typically fix these mitts inexpensively.
