Smartwool Cabin Mule

Designed with circular principles in mind, these cozy, indoor-outdoor slippers feature our Second Cut™ fleece—crafted with pre-consumer Smartwool® Merino wool scraps. The rubber sole adds protection, while the collapsible heel lets you choose between a mule or a full slipper. A recycled–Merino lined foam insole adds cushy comfort for cabin days, coffee runs, or winding down after big adventures.

Second Cut™ Fleece From Pre-Consumer Merino Scraps
Designed with circular principles in mind, Second Cut™ fleece is crafted with the pre-consumer Smartwool® Merino wool scraps that would otherwise go to waste. The result is a soft, lofty fleece upper with the moisture management, temperature regulation, and odor resistance Merino is known for — reworked from material that already existed.
Merino + Recycled Polyester Blend
The fabric blends Merino’s natural performance (moisture management, temperature regulation, odor resistance) with recycled polyester for structure and durability. The Merino does the work against the foot; the recycled poly keeps the upper holding its shape wear after wear.
Rubber Sole For Indoor + Outdoor Wear
A rubber sole gives these slippers protection both inside and outside the house — wear them from the kitchen to the porch, the deck, or the driveway without switching into a real shoe. The grip keeps the foot planted on tile, hardwood, and concrete without the slipper-sock feel of a soft-soled house shoe.
Recycled-Merino Lined Foam Insole
A recycled-Merino wool-lined foam insole cushions each step with breathable, soft support. The foam absorbs impact on hard floors; the Merino lining manages moisture and resists odor so the slipper stays fresh between wears.
Collapsible Heel — Mule Or Slipper
The heel collapses down for mule-style wear (slip-on, slip-off) or flips up for closed-back slipper wear. Two form factors in one — mule for the quick coffee run, closed-back for the full cabin morning when the floors stay cold all day.
Made With Circular Principles
Built around the idea that high-performance materials shouldn’t be wasted. Second Cut™ fleece reuses Merino scraps from Smartwool’s own supply chain; the recycled-Merino insole lining extends that circular thinking to the footbed; the rubber sole completes a slipper designed to be reused, not replaced.

Cleaning
Spot clean the fleece upper with a damp cloth and a small amount of mild detergent. Treat stains as they happen — the Second Cut™ fleece holds up to hand cleaning but isn’t built for machine agitation. Avoid soaking the rubber sole or submerging the insole.
Drying
Air dry only. Stuff with paper and set away from direct heat or sunlight to absorb moisture and hold shape as the fleece dries. Heat from a dryer or radiator can shrink Merino fibers and warp the rubber sole.
Bleach & Fabric Softener
Do not bleach. Do not use fabric softener. Bleach damages Merino wool fibers and the recycled-polyester upper; fabric softener coats the Merino lining and reduces the moisture-managing performance that keeps the insole fresh.
Refreshing Between Wears
Merino’s natural odor resistance means a quick airing out is usually all that’s needed between wears. The slipper doesn’t need to be washed after every use — let the recycled-Merino insole do the work it was designed for.
Storage
Store flat or loosely folded in a dry spot. Avoid compression that flattens the foam insole long-term — the slipper keeps its cushion when the insole holds its shape between wears.

Merino Layer System — SW003389

Built For

Cabin & Cold Floors
Indoor
Second Cut™ fleece insulates bare feet against freezing hardwood and tile, so the first step out of bed isn’t a shock. The recycled-Merino foam insole adds cushioning for standing at the kitchen counter or the workbench without the flat feel of a house slipper-sock.
Morning Coffee Run
Quick Exit
Slip the heel down for mule mode and grab the paper, meet the delivery driver, or check the mail without lacing up real shoes. The collapsible heel makes the cabin-to-porch transition a single motion — no second pair of shoes by the door.
Post-Adventure Wind-Down
After Big Days
The rubber sole handles the boot-room floor and the cabin steps without tracking mud into bed. Kick off the boots, flip the heel up for closed-back slipper mode, and let the recycled-Merino insole handle the next 12 hours of recovery.
Made From Merino Scraps
Circular
Second Cut™ fleece reuses pre-consumer Smartwool® Merino scraps that would otherwise go to waste. The slipper delivers Merino performance against the foot — moisture management, temperature regulation, odor resistance — without the supply chain cost of virgin wool.
Build The Stack

Pair It With Bare Feet

The Cabin Mule is designed to be worn without socks. The recycled-Merino lined foam insole does the moisture-wicking work a sock normally would, and the Second Cut™ fleece upper is soft enough to wear against bare skin all day. If you want a layer, reach for a thin Merino liner sock.

  • Barefoot no sock needed — Merino against skin
  • Thin Merino liner extra warmth on cold floors
  • Cozy cabin sock thicker warmth, still indoor
  • Hike sock if you want sock + slipper together
Complete The Kit

Layer Up Top

The Cabin Mule is the foot half of a complete cabin-day layering system. Pair it with Classic Thermal Merino base layers + a Smartloft vest for head-to-toe warmth on the cold-morning porch without lacing up real shoes.

  • Merino joggers / flannel pant warmth under the slipper
  • Heavyweight base layer crew cold-morning wear
  • Fleece hoodie casual warmth indoors
  • Down vest core warmth for the porch

Prepared with intention.

Every product is carefully inspected and handled by our team before it ships. From fit and function to final details, we make sure each piece is ready for the outdoors ahead—so you can focus on the experience, not the gear.
