We built the Universal Daypack through the lens of universal design, to create a more accessible pack designed for all. With all the performance needed for long days outdoors—like rugged, water-resistant body fabric, secure pockets and adjustable straps—we also added a number of innovative and easy-to-use features. An oversized handle makes it easy to carry, magnetic closures allow for quick access and the narrow size can fit comfortably between the wheels of most wheelchairs, because the outdoors is for everyone.
Universal Design Build
Engineered under a universal design philosophy — built to be intuitive and easy to use for the widest possible range of bodies, abilities, and use cases, including adaptive users. Tactile cues, oversized handles, magnetic closures, and one-handed operation throughout remove friction for anyone who finds standard backpack hardware difficult to manipulate.
Wheelchair-Compatible Profile
Narrow silhouette fits comfortably between the wheels of most wheelchairs without bumping the push rims — extends the pack's usability to adaptive users who need a daypack that works on a wheelchair rather than just on the back. Extended webbing straps on top of the back panel let the pack attach to most wheelchairs for hands-free transport.
FIDLOCK® Auto-Locking Magnetic Closure
Main compartment uses a FIDLOCK® auto-locking magnetic closure — opens and closes with one hand, snaps securely shut on its own, and doesn't require fine-motor precision to operate (a meaningful upgrade over fiddly zippers for users with arthritis, limb differences, or anyone juggling gloves, kids, or gear.
Tactile Cue Trims
Strategically placed overt trims throughout the pack act as tactile cues — main closure and strap adjustments are easy to locate by touch without looking, which helps any user find the right fastener quickly and gives blind and low-vision users the same confident, eyes-free operation as sighted users.
Adjustable Torso Length
Adjustable torso length lets the pack fit a wide range of body sizes — accommodates shorter and taller torsos without compromise, and fits well on most wheelchairs for users who want the pack mounted behind them rather than on their back.
One-Handed Sternum Strap
Adjustable sternum strap is engineered to be easy to use with one hand — fastens, adjusts, and releases without needing a second hand to hold the buckle, which is meaningful for anyone carrying a child, holding a leash, or operating with limited grip strength or dexterity.
210D Nylon with TPU Coating
Body fabric is 210D ripstop nylon with TPU coating — rugged and highly water-resistant construction that handles abrasion from wheelchairs, rails, and rough surfaces, plus wet conditions, packed lunches, and the kind of daily abuse a hard-use daypack takes.
15'' Laptop + 3L Hydration Sleeve
Internal sleeve fits a 15'' laptop or a 3L hydration bladder — pulls double duty for office days and trail days without needing to swap gear between bags. The sleeve protects the laptop on the commute and secures the hydration bladder on the trail.
Stowable Shoulder Straps + Hipbelt
Shoulder straps stow cleanly when the pack is attached to a wheelchair, mounted behind a seat, or carried by the top handle — keeps the straps from dangling into wheels or getting caught on chair components. The removable, stowable hipbelt goes further by tucking away for chair-mounted use.
Stand-Up Design
Stand-up design keeps the pack upright when set down — easier packing and unpacking on the floor, on a chair, on a wheelchair tray, or on a table without the pack tipping over mid-load.
Oversize Padded Grab Handle
Oversize, padded top grab handle makes the pack easy to carry by hand when the shoulder straps are stowed — gives a comfortable, secure grip for short carries between the car and the trailhead, the office and the desk, or the chair and the door.
Dual Cinch Mesh Bottle Pockets
Two cinch-closure mesh pockets on the sides hold water bottles, snacks, or small items — the cinch closure keeps contents secure when the pack is laid down or mounted on a chair, and the mesh lets you see what's inside without opening.
Internal Secure-Zip Mesh Pocket
Internal secure-zip mesh pocket organizes small essentials — keys, wallet, phone, medication, or a first-aid kit — and keeps them findable and protected inside the main compartment.
Daisy-Chain Lash Points
Daisy-chain webbing on the front of the pack offers lash points for clipping extra gear — a jacket, a yoga mat, a helmet, or anything else that doesn't fit inside. Climbing-pack-inspired durable boot at the bottom adds extra abrasion resistance where the pack gets set down the most.

Cleaning
Spot clean the 210D nylon body with a damp cloth and mild soap for everyday dirt and grime. For deeper cleaning, hand wash the pack in cool water with a mild technical-fabric detergent — avoid machine washing, which can damage the TPU coating, the FIDLOCK® magnetic closure, and the daisy-chain webbing on the front of the pack. Don't dry-clean or use harsh solvents.
Drying
Air dry at room temperature away from direct heat or sunlight after cleaning — high heat can damage the TPU coating on the body fabric, warp the FIDLOCK® magnetic closure, and degrade the stowable shoulder straps and removable hipbelt. Make sure the pack is fully dry inside and out before storing.
FIDLOCK® Closure Care
Keep the FIDLOCK® auto-locking magnetic closure clean and free of debris — wipe the magnetic track with a dry cloth periodically to clear dust and grit. The magnetic mechanism is durable but can lose grip strength if debris builds up between the magnet faces. If the closure stops snapping securely, check for trapped material before assuming the magnet has failed.
Wheelchair Strap Inspection
If using the extended webbing straps to attach the pack to a wheelchair, periodically inspect the webbing and buckles for wear — wheelchair mounting puts extra stress on the back panel webbing, and worn straps should be retired from chair-mounted use even if the rest of the pack is still functional. Replacement webbing straps are typically available through TNF customer service.
Zipper Care
Keep the internal secure-zip mesh pocket zipper clean and free of debris — periodically brush it lightly with a soft brush to clear dust from the teeth. If the zipper starts sticking, rub a graphite pencil along the teeth or apply a small amount of zipper lubricant rather than forcing it.
Storage
Store the pack in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight — UV exposure over time can degrade the TPU coating on the body fabric, weaken the FIDLOCK® magnetic closure, and fade the shell. Don't store wet, and don't compress the pack under heavy gear for extended periods, which can deform the stand-up structure and the climbing-pack-inspired boot at the bottom.
