Washing
Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle with like colors. Use a mild detergent — skip the fabric softener and bleach, both of which can break down the fleece fibers over time and reduce the recycled-polyester performance. Zip the front zipper fully before washing to prevent the zipper teeth from snagging the fleece face.
Drying
Tumble dry low or hang to dry. The midweight fleece dries quickly — air-drying is fine for most cases and saves energy. Avoid high heat, which can damage the fleece pile, melt any reflective details, and shrink the recycled polyester body.
Pilling Care
Fleece is prone to pilling with heavy use, especially under backpack straps or where the jacket rubs against itself. Use a fabric shaver or sweater comb carefully to remove pills. Pilling is cosmetic — the fleece still insulates and wicks fine underneath.
Stain Treatment
Pre-treat stains with a dab of liquid laundry detergent or a gentle stain remover before washing. The midweight fleece absorbs oily stains deeply — work the detergent in gently and let it sit 10–15 minutes before washing.
Zipper Care
The full-length front zipper is the most likely failure point. If the zipper sticks or separates, lubricate the teeth with a graphite pencil (run the pencil up and down both sides of the zipper) or a tiny amount of beeswax. Avoid forcing a stuck zipper — it can break the slider or the teeth.
Snag Prevention
The fleece face will snag on Velcro, branch tips, and rough backpack straps. Be mindful when layering under packs or shells with rough interior fabrics. Trim snags carefully with small scissors rather than pulling them, which can unravel the surrounding fibers.
Odor Care
Recycled polyester fleece can hold odors after heavy wear. Wash after particularly sweaty efforts rather than re-wearing. For stubborn smells, soak in a 50/50 mix of cold water and white vinegar for 30 minutes before the normal wash cycle.
Storage
Store folded or hung on a wide hanger. Avoid wire hangers — they can distort the shoulders over time, especially on the streamlined fit. The fleece holds shape well, so a hanger is fine for short-term storage; fold for long-term to avoid shoulder stress.
Travel
The midweight fleece packs down small — fold or roll and stuff in a pack, duffel, or compression sack. Lightweight enough to keep in a daypack for layering emergencies on shoulder-season hikes.
Recycled Fabric Longevity
The 100% recycled polyester holds up to repeated wash cycles better than many virgin-fiber fleeces. With reasonable care, this jacket should last multiple seasons of regular use.
