Washing
Close all zippers (back waistband pocket + any other) before washing. Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle with like colors. Use a mild technical cleaner such as Nikwax Tech Wash or Granger’s Performance Wash to maintain the FLASHDRY™ + FLASHDRY-XD™ moisture-management treatments and the non-PFC DWR finish on both the 75D 125 g/m² main body and the 50D 127 g/m² reinforcement panels. Regular household detergent leaves residue that degrades all three treatments over time. Avoid chlorine bleach, fabric softener, and dryer sheets. Do not dry clean.
Drying
Tumble dry on low to reactivate the DWR finish. A short 10–15 minute low-heat cycle is usually enough — long high-heat cycles can damage the 13% + 20% elastane stretch, the elasticated mesh waistband, the internal drawcord, and the reflective heat-transfer logo on the left leg. Hang dry is also fine if you tumble briefly afterward to restore water beading.
DWR Re-Proofing
When water stops beading on the 75D 125 g/m² main body or the 50D 127 g/m² reinforcement panels, re-treat with a spray-on DWR such as Nikwax TX Direct or Granger’s Performance Repel. Apply to the clean, damp pant, paying extra attention to the seat and knees (most abrasion-prone areas), the lower legs (most trail-spray exposure), and the waistband (most sweat-prone area). A short low-heat tumble helps set the finish.
FLASHDRY™ + FLASHDRY-XD™ Care
FLASHDRY™ and FLASHDRY-XD™ are built into the fabric and last the life of the pant with proper care. Avoid fabric softener entirely — softener leaves a waxy residue on the fibers that coats and eventually blocks the moisture-management treatments. If the pant starts feeling less moisture-wicking after a year or so of heavy use, a wash with Nikwax Tech Wash (no fabric softener) usually restores performance.
Elasticated Mesh Waistband Care
The elasticated mesh waistband is the most fragile part of the pant. The mesh + elastic combination is durable but can lose snap over years of heavy use. Don’t pull the pant on or off by the waistband — slide it on. If the elastic loses snap, the pant needs replacement (the waistband isn’t field-repairable). The internal drawcord is replaceable with a standard 1/4″ round drawcord from a craft or outdoor store.
Faux Fly + Drop-In Pockets
The faux fly is a sewn-shut design — no zippers, snaps, or buttons. The drop-in hand pockets are open at the top (no zippers) and the back waistband pocket is secure-zip. Empty the back pocket before washing (phones, cards, keys can damage the secure-zip coil and the pocket interior). Hand pockets are durable but don’t overload with heavy items (large phones, full water bottles stress the pocket seam and can pull the pocket off the body).
Gusset Care
The gusset is the highest-stress seam on the pant (full range of motion). Check the gusset seam periodically — if it starts to fray, a quick reinforcement stitch with polyester thread restores it. Don’t store the pant with the gusset under compression (stuffed in a pack or gear bag) for long periods.
Stretch Fabric Care
The 13% elastane in the main body and 20% elastane in the reinforcement panels deliver four-way stretch, but elastane breaks down faster than polyester if exposed to high heat, chlorine, or harsh chemicals. Avoid hot tubs, chlorinated pools, and prolonged UV exposure. If the pant loses its snap-back stretch, the elastane is likely degraded — common after 3–5 years of heavy trail use.
Reflective Detail Care
The reflective heat-transfer logo on the left leg and the reflective detail on the rear ankles are durable but not indestructible. Avoid ironing directly on the reflective areas — high heat can melt or distort the reflective film. If the reflective starts to peel at the edges (typical after years of heavy wear), a small dab of fabric adhesive from a craft store can re-seal the edge.
Trail-Run to Coffee-Shop Use
The Sunriser Pant is built for the same crossover use as the Sunriser ¼-Zip (built earlier in this session #63) — wear it for a morning trail run, then head straight to brunch or errands without looking like you just exercised. The tonal branding, faux fly construction, and slim-but-not-too-slim cut keep it presentable for casual urban use while the FLASHDRY™ + 4-way stretch + DWR keep it functional for high-output activity. A real piece for active travelers who want one pant that does double duty.
Storage
Hang on a wide hanger in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, or fold loosely. The lightweight 75D 125 g/m² main body is easy to pack — rolls up small for travel. Avoid hanging in direct sunlight for long periods — UV degrades both the 87% recycled polyester and the non-PFC DWR. Keep out of damp areas (FLASHDRY™ doesn’t prevent mildew).
