Technology

FLASHDRY-XD™
Extreme-Durability FLASHDRY™ — combines the moisture-wicking and quick-drying properties of standard FLASHDRY™ with added snag resistance for high-abrasion pursuits like climbing and bushwhacking
Cleaning
Machine wash cold (30 °C) on a gentle cycle with a mild technical or color-safe detergent. Turn the hoodie inside out before washing to protect the various logo and graphic techniques and to reduce pilling on the 187 g/m² knit. Avoid bleach, fabric softener, and stain remover — softener is the #1 enemy of FLASHDRY-XD™ (coats the fibers and blocks the moisture-wicking action), and bleach degrades the 8% elastane stretch and the 92% recycled polyester.
Drying
Tumble dry on low heat or hang to dry. Low tumble heat restores the FLASHDRY-XD™ moisture-wicking performance and refreshes the elastane stretch. High heat is the #1 enemy of FLASHDRY-XD™ — it can damage the chemical treatment, break down the elastane fibers, and shrink the rib on the cuffs (where the thumbholes are). Remove promptly to limit wrinkles; the 187 g/m² knit dries quickly.
FLASHDRY-XD™ Moisture Management
FLASHDRY-XD™ is the extreme-durability version of FLASHDRY™ — same moisture-wicking and quick-drying properties, plus added snag resistance. Like standard FLASHDRY™, the #1 enemy is fabric softener — it coats the fibers with a hydrophobic film that blocks the moisture transport. Skip softener entirely, including "athletic" or "sport" formulas. Tumble dry on low to maintain full performance.
8% Elastane Stretch
The 8% elastane gives the hoodie its moveable feel for climbing and reaching — but elastane is heat-sensitive. High-temperature wash, hot tumble dry, or any direct heat (radiator, hair dryer, hot car interior) breaks down the stretch fibers over time. Cool water + low-heat tumble dry preserves the stretch across years of wear.
Three-Piece Hood
The three-piece hood has a contoured shape (two front panels + a back panel) that holds its form better than a basic 2-piece hood — it sits closer to the head under a helmet or beanie without ballooning. Don't pull the hoodie off by the hood (slide it off from the hem) — repeated pulling stretches the hood-to-shoulder seam.
Self-Fabric Tape on Inner Back Collar
The self-fabric tape on the inner back collar sits where most backpacks and harnesses rest against the neck — it reinforces the collar against harness friction and adds comfort where the seam would otherwise press against bare skin. Inspect the tape periodically — if it peels or frays, hand-stitch it back down or replace through TNF's repair service.
Set-In Sleeves
Set-in sleeves are sewn to the body with a tailored seam at the shoulder and underarm — this construction gives the best range of motion for climbing reaches and high-arm activity. Avoid over-stretching the shoulder seam by lifting the arms repeatedly under load (heavy pack, climbing); the seam is the most stress-loadable stitch on the hoodie. Inspect the underarm seam periodically.
Thumbholes
The cuffs have thumbholes designed to keep the sleeves in place during climbing, running, or layering. Insert and remove thumbs carefully — don't yank the cuff by the thumb or you'll stress the hole's stitching. The thumbhole area can pill with friction; if pilling appears, lightly trim with sharp scissors (do not pull pills, which damages the knit).
Various Logo & Graphic Techniques
TNF uses a mix of screen print, heat transfer, and embroidery on this style — wash inside-out to protect whichever finish is on this specific colorway. Don't iron directly on any printed graphic; iron on the reverse side only at low-medium heat with steam. Harsh detergents, bleach, and high heat damage prints and transfers. Clip any lifted graphic edges with sharp scissors to prevent peeling.
Snag Resistance (FLASHDRY-XD™)
The "XD" (Extreme Durability) layer of FLASHDRY-XD™ adds snag resistance for high-abrasion pursuits like climbing on rough rock, bushwhacking, and working under branches. The knit is tighter and more durable than standard FLASHDRY™, but it's not snag-proof — clip any small snags with sharp scissors to prevent runs. Inspect underarm and side-seam zones (where harness hip-belts and pack straps rub) periodically.
Desert Stone Color
Desert Stone is a TNF warm neutral — wash with like colors the first few cycles to prevent dye transfer. Stone tones show body oils and pilling more visibly than dark colors, so wash inside-out on gentle cycles to preserve the face finish. Avoid prolonged UV storage, which can fade the desert tone over time.
Storage
Fold and store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. UV exposure breaks down the FLASHDRY-XD™ treatment over time and fades the Desert Stone face fabric. Avoid compressing the hoodie under heavy gear for long periods — the elastane fibers and the hood shape can deform permanently. Confirm the hoodie is fully dry before storage to prevent mildew in the knit interior.
