Washing
Use a down-specific wash (such as Nikwax Down Wash or Grangers Down Wash) in a front-loading washer on a gentle cycle with warm water. Do not use regular detergent, bleach, or fabric softener — they strip ProDown's natural oils and ruin loft.
Drying
Tumble dry on LOW heat for several hours with 2–3 clean tennis balls or dryer balls. The balls break up down clumps and restore full loft. The bag must be completely dry before storage — trapped moisture causes ProDown rot and mildew.
Storage
Store UNCOMPRESSED in a large cotton or mesh storage sack in a cool, dry place. Long-term compression in the stuff sack ruins down loft and permanently reduces warmth — critical for a 0°F mountaineering bag.
Spot Cleaning
For small stains, spot clean with a damp cloth and mild soap. Avoid soaking the bag unnecessarily.
Dry Cleaning
Professional cleaning is acceptable if needed.
Field Care
After alpine use, fully dry the bag before packing out of the tent. Even small amounts of trapped moisture degrade ProDown over time. Air the bag out during lunch breaks on multi-day trips.
