Washing
Hand wash cold with a mild detergent — the embroidered logo, FLASHDRY PRO™ sweatband treatment, and UPF 50 finish are all sensitive to harsh washing. Do not machine wash or tumble dry — the agitation and spin can damage the embroidered logo, deform the brim, and degrade the sweatband's moisture-wicking treatment. If the hat is heavily soiled from sunscreen, sweat, or trail dust, soak it in cool water with a tiny amount of mild detergent for 15 minutes, then gently hand-wash and rinse thoroughly.
Drying
Air dry at room temperature away from direct heat or sunlight. Reshape the brim while damp — the brim can lose its shape if left to dry crumpled or hung from one point. Lay the hat crown-down on a clean towel and gently press out excess water (don't wring). Allow to dry completely before storing; storing a damp hat promotes mildew on the recycled polyester mesh lining and can degrade the FLASHDRY PRO™ sweatband. Do not use a clothes dryer, radiator, or hair dryer — heat warps the brim and degrades the UPF finish.
Brim Care
The full brim is the structural feature of the hat — protect it from being crushed or folded. Never fold or crease the brim — the recycled nylon fabric will take a permanent set at fold lines and the brim will no longer shade evenly. When traveling, pack the hat crown-down in luggage with soft items around it, or wear it on the plane. If the brim gets bent from packing, gently reshape it by hand while the fabric is slightly damp and let it dry in shape.
FLASHDRY PRO™ Sweatband Care
The branded sweatband features FLASHDRY PRO™ materials that actively pull moisture away from the skin. Avoid fabric softener — fabric softener coats the FLASHDRY PRO™ fibers and reduces their moisture-wicking effectiveness permanently. Do not use bleach or harsh detergents on the sweatband — these degrade the moisture-wicking treatment. If the sweatband starts to feel less effective at wicking (after 50+ wears), a gentle hand-wash with a technical cleaner (Nikwax Tech Wash, Granger's Performance Wash) can restore some of the wicking performance.
UPF 50 Maintenance
UPF 50 sun protection is built into the fabric — it's not a coating that washes off. However, the UPF rating depends on the fabric being intact (no holes, stretched threads, or fabric degradation). Inspect the fabric periodically for signs of wear, especially at the crown where the recycled nylon body and recycled polyester mesh meet. Do not use bleach or chlorine-based cleaners — these break down the synthetic fibers and reduce the UPF rating. A hat that's lost its shape, has stretched threads, or has visible fabric wear should be replaced.
Sunscreen & Body Oil Stains
Sunscreen and body oils can stain the hat fabric permanently if not cleaned promptly. Wipe sunscreen off the brim and crown as soon as possible after application — most sunscreens contain avobenzone or oxybenzone which can yellow the recycled nylon body fabric on contact. Pre-treat any stains with a tiny amount of mild dish soap (Dawn or similar) before hand-washing; the surfactants break down the oils without damaging the UPF treatment or the FLASHDRY PRO™ sweatband.
Chin Strap & Cord Lock Care
The adjustable chin strap with cord lock is designed for use in wind and water. Rinse the cord lock and strap with fresh water after saltwater or chlorinated pool exposure — salt and chlorine can corrode the cord lock mechanism and degrade the strap over time. If the cord lock stops locking properly (after heavy use), check for debris or salt buildup in the locking teeth and rinse thoroughly. Replacement cord locks are available at most outdoor gear shops and are user-replaceable with basic tools.
Storage
Store the hat crown-down on a clean surface or hang it from the shockcord adjustment at the back. Do not hang from the brim — hanging from the brim can stretch the recycled nylon body fabric and distort the brim shape over time. Keep out of direct sunlight when not in use — UV exposure over months can fade the fabric color and degrade the UPF 50 finish over many years of continuous exposure. A hat stored in a closet will maintain its UPF rating and color much longer than one left on a car dashboard or windowsill.
