Green Kazoo Sleeping Bag
Green Kazoo Sleeping Bag
Sleep System · Down Mummy

The water-repellent Green Kazoo is a highly compressible and lightweight zero-degree bag made with a shell fabric and insulation that are both 100% recycled. With warm 700-fill down and a fully insulated hood, it’ll be your best friend after a hard day’s hike.

700-Fill GRS-Certified Recycled Down
700 fill Global Recycled Standard (GRS) certified waterfowl down — premium loft, warmth-to-weight, and compressibility, sourced from recycled down with a verifiable chain of custody
100% Recycled Shell
20D 100% GRS-certified recycled nylon shell — ultralight, compressible, and verified recycled content in the face fabric
Fully Insulated Hood
Hood and insulated cinch collar are designed to seal out chilly breezes and retain heat around the head — critical for zero-degree sleeping
Trapezoidal Side-Chamber Baffles
Trapezoidal side-chamber baffles prevent the down from shifting between the top and bottom of the bag — reduces cold spots and retains loft over the life of the bag
2/3-Length YKK® Side Zipper
Durable YKK® 2/3-length side zipper (right-hand orientation) makes it easy to get in and out of the bag and saves weight vs. a full-length zip
Sleeping-Pad Shockcord Attachment
Shockcords on the back of the bag attach to a sleeping pad so the pad stays in place under you through the night — no more waking up on cold ground because the pad slid off
Compression Stuffsack
Compression stuffsack included for compact transport — bag down to roughly 10″ × 18″ stuffed
Non-PFC DWR Finish
Non-PFC durable water-repellent finish on the 20D recycled nylon shell — water beads off the surface and the bag resists light moisture in tent condensation, snow, or damp ground

Washing
Close the 2/3-length side zipper fully before washing. Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle in a front-loading washer (top-loaders with agitators damage the 700-fill down baffles and the trapezoidal side-chamber construction). Use a technical down wash such as Nikwax Down Wash or Granger’s Down Wash — regular household detergent strips the natural oils from the 700-fill GRS-certified recycled down, which permanently reduces loft and warmth. Avoid bleach, fabric softener, and dryer sheets. Do not dry clean.
Drying
Tumble dry on low with 3–4 clean tennis balls or dryer balls. The balls are critical for breaking up clumps in the 700-fill recycled down and restoring loft — the single most important step for keeping a down bag warm over its lifetime. Drying can take 3–4 cycles for a heavily-soaked bag; the bag is fully dry when no clumps remain and the down is evenly distributed. High heat damages the 20D recycled nylon, the non-PFC DWR, and can scorch the down (goose down scorches above ~140°F and loses loft permanently). Air-dry flat in a well-ventilated area if you don’t have a dryer, but expect to manually break up down clumps by hand.
DWR Re-Proofing
When water stops beading on the 20D GRS-certified recycled nylon shell, re-treat with a spray-on DWR such as Nikwax TX Direct or Granger’s Performance Repel. Apply to the clean, damp bag, paying attention to the hood, footbox, and shoulder areas that get the most moisture exposure. A short low-heat tumble helps set the finish.
Down Care Specifics
700-fill GRS-certified recycled down requires specific care to maintain loft and warmth. Don’t compress the bag in the stuffsack for long periods. If the down has clumped after years of use (especially at the shoulders, hood, and footbox), a long low-heat tumble cycle with 3–4 tennis balls is the right reset. If a feather pierces the face fabric, work it back into the baffle from the inside rather than pulling it out — pulling damages the trapezoidal baffle and creates a permanent leak path.
Zippers
The YKK® 2/3-length side zip is the most failure-prone part of any sleeping bag. Keep the coil clean (a soft brush works), lubricate sparingly with a silicone-based zipper lubricant (Nikwax, GE Silicone II, or beeswax) if it starts sticking, and never force a stuck zipper — back it off and clear debris from the coil to avoid breaking the slider. Open and close fully when storing so the slider doesn’t rest in one position and wear the coil unevenly. Right-hand zip orientation — the slider is on the right side of the bag when lying in it face up.
Shockcord Pad Attachment
The shockcords on the back of the bag are designed to attach to a sleeping pad (wrap around the pad’s length, cinch the cord). Check the shockcord condition each season; if it has lost elasticity or frayed, it can be replaced with a generic 1/8″ bungee cord from a hardware store. The shockcord is what keeps the pad in place under you through the night — without it, the pad slides around and you end up sleeping on the cold ground.
Field Care
Air out the bag every morning on the tent, pack, or a clothesline for 10–15 minutes to evaporate body moisture before stuffing — a damp down bag loses significant loft and insulating power. Shake out the down before re-stuffing to prevent clumping. Use a sleeping bag liner (silk, thermolite, or cotton) to keep body oils off the down and extend time between washes — a good liner can double the time between washings.
Storage (Off-Season)
Store clean, dry, and uncompressed in a cool, dark, dry place. The best storage is a large cotton or mesh storage sack (or just hanging loosely in a closet). Never store a down bag in the compression stuffsack for long periods — the compression permanently damages 700-fill down loft and reduces thermal performance. Use the compression sack only for transport. Keep out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources — UV degrades the 20D recycled nylon, the non-PFC DWR, and slowly breaks down the down over time.
Cold-Weather Use
The 0°F / −18°C rating is the lower limit (EN/ISO) — i.e., the temperature at which a standard man can sleep for 6 hours without excessive hypothermia. The comfort rating is typically 15–20°F warmer (around 15–20°F / −9 to −7°C). For women or cold sleepers, the comfort rating is the more relevant number. Plan layers and pad R-value accordingly — a 0°F bag on a low-R-value pad still loses heat to the ground.
