Washing
Turn the shorts inside out before washing to protect the heat-transfer logo on the left thigh. Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle with like colors. Use a mild technical cleaner such as Nikwax Tech Wash or Granger’s Performance Wash to maintain the FLASHDRY™ moisture-management treatment and the non-PFC DWR finish (the 88 g/m² recycled polyester has a light DWR to shed water). Regular household detergent leaves residue that degrades the FLASHDRY™ finish and the DWR over time. Avoid chlorine bleach, fabric softener, and dryer sheets. Do not dry clean (solvents destroy the DWR + the recycled polyester).
Drying
Tumble dry on low for 10–15 minutes, or hang to dry. The 88 g/m² lightweight fabric dries very quickly — typically dry in a single low-heat cycle or in under an hour on a hanger. Avoid high heat — can damage the encased-elastic waistband, the internal drawcord, and the heat-transfer logo. Hang dry is also fine if you tumble briefly afterward to restore water beading.
DWR Re-Proofing
When water stops beading on the 88 g/m² 100% recycled polyester body, re-treat with a spray-on DWR such as Nikwax TX Direct or Granger’s Performance Repel. Apply to the clean, damp shorts, paying extra attention to the seat and upper-thigh (most exposure to grass stains and water from sitting). A short low-heat tumble helps set the finish.
FLASHDRY™ Care
FLASHDRY™ is built into the fabric and lasts the life of the garment with proper care. Avoid fabric softener entirely — softener leaves a waxy residue on the fibers that coats and eventually blocks the moisture-management treatment. If the shorts start feeling less moisture-wicking after a year or so of heavy use, a wash with Nikwax Tech Wash (no fabric softener) usually restores performance.
Dolphin-Hem Care
The dolphin-style hem is the key design feature — the cut-higher-on-sides construction provides mobility but also has two distinct hem edges. When ironing (low heat only, inside out), pay attention to the asymmetric shape so you don’t press a flat hem. If the hem starts to fray at the side cuts (the highest-stress area), a quick hand-stitch with matching thread restores it before the fray spreads.
Heat-Transfer Logo Care
The heat-transfer logo on the left thigh is durable but can crack or peel with heavy use. Don’t iron directly on the heat-transfer logo — iron inside-out or use a press cloth. If the logo starts to peel at the edges, a small dab of fabric adhesive from a craft store can re-seal the edge. Don’t pick at the logo — once the edge lifts, the peeling accelerates.
Encased-Elastic Waistband Care
The encased-elastic waistband is the most fragile part of the shorts. The internal drawcord can wear through the casing over years of heavy use; if the drawcord starts to fray, a small replacement drawcord (standard 1/4″ round drawcord from a craft store) can be threaded through. Don’t over-stretch the waistband when putting on or taking off — repeated over-stretching can permanently deform the elastic.
Drop-In Hand Pockets
Drop-in hand pockets are open at the top (no zippers). The pocket-bag stitching is the most common stress point — check it periodically, especially if the child carries heavy items (large phones, small toys, snacks). Empty pockets before washing to prevent items from stressing the pocket seam during the wash cycle.
Kids-Specific Stain Care
Kids’ shorts get dirty fast — grass, food, mud, marker, etc. Spot-clean small stains promptly with a damp cloth and mild soap. For tougher stains (grass, ink), work a paste of baking soda + water into the spot, let sit for 15 minutes, then wash. For really stubborn stains (permanent marker, paint), a small amount of rubbing alcohol on a cotton ball can lift the stain — test in a hidden area first. Don’t use bleach, oxygen cleaners, or enzyme cleaners on kids’ shorts — they break down the recycled polyester fibers and the FLASHDRY™ treatment.
Sizing & Growing Room (Updated)
Per the product page note: "We've updated our youth sizing. Please use our sizing guide to find your best fit." Most parents buy ½ to 1 size up to allow for growing room and to extend the shorts’ usable life across one or two seasons. With the right amount of growing room, the shorts can carry a child through a full summer + a school year. The 3″ inseam is a fixed design — sizing up doesn’t make them longer, it makes them wider.
Storage (Off-Season)
Store in a cool, dry place — folded in a drawer or hung on a hanger. The 88 g/m² lightweight fabric is easy to pack — rolls up small for travel. Keep out of direct sunlight (UV degrades the 100% recycled polyester over time). If you have multiple kids’ shorts, rotate them to extend the life of each pair.
