Cleaning
Wipe the 210D recycled nylon ripstop exterior with a damp cloth and mild soap. For deeper cleaning, hand-wash in lukewarm water with a mild technical detergent — do not machine wash. The machine agitation can damage the breathable back panel's foam padding, stretch out the stretch-mesh water bottle pockets, and stress the trekking-pole attachment hardware. Empty all pockets, including the hydration sleeve, before cleaning.
Drying
Air dry completely at room temperature with all compartments unzipped and the hydration sleeve drained. Hang from the top grab handle or stand upright with the zipper open. Do not tumble dry, do not use a clothes dryer, and do not apply direct heat (radiators, hair dryers, hot exhaust) — heat can delaminate the 600D recycled polyester boot and warp any bonded seams.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight with all compartments open and the sternum strap unbuckled. Long-term storage with sealed pockets and buckled straps stresses the fabric and zipper tracks. Confirm the interior is fully dry before storing to prevent mildew in the hydration sleeve.
DWR Maintenance
The non-PFC DWR finish on both the 210D recycled nylon body and the 600D recycled polyester boot can be refreshed when water no longer beads on the surface. Apply a PFC-free DWR spray treatment rated for nylon ripstop and let cure per the spray's instructions. Avoid saturating the bonded seams.
Breathable Back Panel & Shoulder Straps
The breathable back panel and shoulder straps have foam padding channels that vent air against your back — but they trap sweat and skin flakes over time. Air the pack out after every use (don't store it in a damp gear closet); for stubborn odor, sprinkle baking soda on the foam padding channels, let it sit overnight, then brush it out.
Adjustable Shoulder Straps (Kids-to-Adults)
The adjustable shoulder straps are the defining feature of this pack — they fit both kids and smaller adults so it can be a single pack for a household. Don't force the straps past their stops. When sizing up for an adult or sizing down for a kid, re-thread the straps deliberately rather than pulling hard. If the hook-and-loop on the strap adjuster wears out, replace via TNF's repair service.
Side Compression Straps
The side compression straps can either cinch the load down (when the 15 L main compartment isn't full) or lash extra gear to the outside (jacket, helmet). Don't over-tighten — over-tension warps the side panels. Periodically check the strap webbing for fraying at the buckle contact points.
Stretch-Mesh Water Bottle Pockets
The two stretch-mesh water bottle pockets are sized for 16–24 oz soft flasks or hard bottles. The mesh stretches to fit, but repeated insertion of hard bottles with rough edges can tear the mesh weave. Don't store heavy items (full 32 oz bottles, glass, sharp items) here without a soft flask. Brush grit from the mesh periodically.
Trekking-Pole Attachment
The minimalist two-point trekking-pole attachment is for stowing poles on the move — thread the pole tips through one side and lock the handles into the other. Don't carry the pack by the trekking-pole attachment — it's a stow system, not a carry handle. Inspect the bungee cords on the attachment periodically; if they lose snap-back, replace through TNF repair.
Top Grab Handle
The top grab handle is reinforced for quick-grab use and for clipping the pack to a rope on short scrambles. Don't hang the pack by the handle for long periods — the stitching can stretch. Inspect the handle attachment points periodically.
External Stash Pocket + Secure-Zip Pocket
The external stash pocket is for quick access to maps, snacks, or a layer (it doesn't have a closure). The external secure-zip pocket has a key hook inside. Don't store valuables in the stash pocket (it's not sealed). Brush the secure-zip zipper teeth with a soft toothbrush and lubricate sparingly with silicone-based lubricant if the slider stiffens.
Sternum Strap & Whistle Buckle
The sternum strap with whistle buckle helps stabilize the load — confirm the buckle latches firmly before each hike. The whistle is a standard emergency-signal feature; confirm the whistle is still audible each season. The whistle tone weakens if grit gets into the buckle mechanism; brush it out periodically.
Internal Hydration Sleeve
The internal hydration sleeve is designed for a hydration bladder (not included) — route the bladder tube through the opening at the top of the shoulder strap. Remove the bladder between uses to allow the sleeve to air-dry completely. If you develop mildew in the sleeve from a leaky bladder, clean the sleeve with a hydration-blade-cleaning tablet (warm water + tablet solution) and air dry fully.
600D Recycled Polyester Boot
The 600D recycled polyester boot is the high-abrasion bottom panel — designed to handle being set down on rock, gravel, and dirt without wearing through. The denser denier (600D vs the body's 210D) gives the boot durability at the cost of weight (the body is lighter for the sides). Don't drag the pack by the boot across rough surfaces to preserve the TPU-style backing and the DWR finish.
Material Notes
Do not dry clean, bleach, iron, or use solvents on the 210D recycled nylon ripstop body or the 600D recycled polyester boot. Keep the pack away from open flames and high heat sources (campfires, hot car interiors). The lightweight pack design makes it sensitive to puncture damage — clip any snags with sharp scissors to prevent runs in the ripstop weave.
