Duffel Bag · Travel / Expedition / Gear Haul

Extreme environments call for rugged durability. That's why we built the Base Camp Duffel. Trusted on the world's toughest terrain since '86, this bag was created as a nearly indestructible storage solution for Himalayan expeditions. Today it remains an instantly recognizable symbol of craggy innovation—its legendary stories are told in scuff marks. Reborn as the ultimate 132-liter travel bag, our burly Base Camp fabric is water and tear-resistant for protection against rough handling and even rougher weather. This is the last bag you need. This is an icon.

Alpine-Cut Shoulder Straps
Removable, adjustable, alpine-cut shoulder straps for an ergonomic fit with minimal twisting. Ergonomically shaped to match the contour of the shoulder rather than dropping straight down — the bag hangs correctly and the load sits on the back instead of pulling the straps off the shoulders. Fully removable when the bag needs to ride in a sled, a plane hold, or a truck bed.
Padded Haul Handles
Duffel handles can be connected with a hook-and-loop wrap for easier one-handed carry. The wrap holds the two top handles together as a single haul loop so the bag can be pulled from an overhead bin, a cargo net, or the back of a truck without one handle flopping free. Cuts down on hand fatigue on the long walk from the luggage carousel to the rental car.
End Grab Handles
Grab handles on the ends offer multiple carrying options — two-person team carry, hoist into a plane, slide across a cargo bay. The end handles are reinforced at the stitching and webbing so a fully-loaded 132-liter bag can be muscled by two people without the handles tearing free.
D-Zip Opening
D-zip opening with a weather-resistant, zippered flap. The D-shaped zipper path opens the duffel almost as wide as a traditional suitcase, so packing and unpacking is fast and the contents stay visible. The oversized zipper flap sheds rain and snow and keeps the bag from accidentally unzipping mid-transit.
Internal Organization
Main compartment has a secure-zip mesh pocket and an end-cap mesh sleeve pocket for more organization. The mesh pocket on the lid holds small essentials where they can be seen — toiletries, electronics, documents. The end-cap mesh sleeve is the spot for shoes, wet layers, or a dirty kit that needs to be separated from the clean side.
Legendary Rugged Construction
Water-resistant Base Camp material with extra bartacks and double stitching at every stress point. This is the construction that survived base camps, cargo nets, sled runs, and airline baggage claim for nearly four decades. The bartacks aren't decorative — they're the difference between a duffel that lasts a season and one that lasts a decade.
Four Compression Straps
Four compression straps cinch the load down tight and keep the contents from shifting during transit. Tighten them on a half-full bag to stop the gear from sloshing around. Loosen them out when the bag is overloaded. The straps also work as external lash points for jackets, sleeping pads, or a wet layer that needs to ride on top.
Daisy-Chain Lash Points
Daisy-chain webbing on the outside offers multiple lash points for clipping extra gear, hanging the bag from a hook, or strapping it to a cargo frame. Compatible with carabiners, bungee cords, and the alpine hardware most expedition travelers already carry. A small detail that turns the duffel from a bag into a modular piece of gear.
Water-Resistant ID Window
Water-resistant ID window on top — slide a business card, a luggage tag, or a hand-written name card inside so the bag can be identified at a glance. The window is on the top end where airline baggage tags are applied, so the printed routing info stays visible without needing to rummage through the main compartment.
Mesh-Bag Packaging
The duffel ships in its own mesh-bag storage sleeve, which doubles as a packing cube, a wash bag, or a way to keep the duffel clean during long-term storage. The mesh breathes, so a damp duffel can be stowed inside it without trapping moisture. It's the small touch that makes travel-day logistics a little easier.

Sustainability

Recycled Content
Body and boot fabrics made with recycled materials
Finish
Non-PFC DWR (no perfluorinated chemicals)
Spot Clean
Wipe clean with a damp cloth and mild soap. For scuffs, dirt, or road grime, use a soft brush and a mild detergent solution. Rinse with a clean damp cloth and air dry. The PVC coating and 1000D body fabric are designed to be wiped down — there's no need to launder the bag the way you would a textile duffel.
Hand Wash Only
For deeper cleaning, hand wash in cold water with a mild detergent. Do not machine wash or tumble dry — the agitation will damage the Base Camp fabric, the DWR finish, the bartacks, and the shoulder strap hardware. The bag is built like luggage, not like clothing, and should be cleaned like luggage.
Air Dry
Air dry completely with the main compartment unzipped and the lid fully open. Hang it on a hook or lay it flat in a well-ventilated area. Do not put in the dryer. Do not iron. High heat delaminates the PVC coating and degrades the DWR finish. The bag can take days to fully dry when the interior is soaked — plan accordingly after a river crossing or a rained-on transit day.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place. The included mesh storage sleeve keeps the duffel clean between trips. Keep buckles and straps unbuckled to avoid stress on the webbing and stitching. Avoid leaving the bag compressed under heavy gear for long periods — the 1000D body fabric and PVC coating are tough, but they hold their shape best when stored open or loosely folded.
Zipper Care
Lubricate the main D-zip and the smaller internal zippers periodically with a silicone-based or beeswax-based zipper lubricant. Avoid getting sand, salt, or grit in the teeth. If a zipper sticks, work it open and closed gently rather than forcing it — the D-zip is large and the slider is heavy, but the coil underneath is repairable if treated kindly.
Restore DWR
When the boot fabric starts to absorb water instead of repelling it, re-treat with a spray-on or wash-in DWR designed for technical outerwear and nylon. Reactivating the finish every 6-12 months keeps the duffel performing like new. The 1000D PVC-coated body doesn't need re-treatment — only the ballistic nylon boot panel benefits from a refresh.
Hardware
Wipe down the metal hardware (D-rings, buckles, slider pulls) with a dry cloth after exposure to salt water or road salt. Salt will pit aluminum and corrode steel if left on the surface. The hardware is replaceable through customer service if a buckle does fail, but a quick wipe-down after a beach day or a winter trip will prevent the issue in the first place.
